Baptism Service May 2009

Testimonies and photos

Here are what the baptism candidates had to say about their experience with Christ:

Carmen Tam:

To be baptized and born again by water and the spirit reflects the symbolic act of the inner change that has already taken place. Where it visually represents and illustrates the central truths of the gospel. Hence to me by identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, it is a testimony before everyone of a new life. Through renouncing of the old self centered ways and committing to make right the relationship with God. So that having been baptized by the one spirit, we are renewed and unified as one in Christ's body.

Samson Leung:

Christianity never played a real part in my life when I was young. God was there, but he revolved around my world and he was always in the back of my head. He was someone I thought who wouldn't mind if I did what I wanted to do and just live this life. That was until I started going to youth group and church more. It opened my eyes at how much more God plays in my life that I thought. It showed me how we should live for God and that he is always first, whether we like it or not. So with this baptism, I know I won't be perfect, but this will be able to strengthened me and live in the greater glory of God.

Jeffrey Fung:

Well, I guess the reason why I feel like getting baptised now is cause I want to have a better relationship with God and to commit myself to him. I have known God or heard of him for a long time, ever since I was a little kid. However, it wasn't until around year 11 that I actually tried to seek him , look for him and really listen to him. It wasn't until then that I realise how much God has done for me and how much he loves me!!~~ and he continues to do so through out until now~~~!!! sooo~~I finally decided to get baptised and will try to please God if I can~~!!! ~hopefully* ^^

Matthew Haydon:

As a child my parents had me baptized and officially inaugurated in their faith, christianity. However, this did not make me a christian. I attended christian and sunday school as well as church but deep down inside I was an atheist. As I grew older, advancing through grades at school, the time allocated to christianity gradually disintegrated with time for study and training being reallocated, until without realizing it God became non-existent factor in my life. It took me ten years to realize that a life without God is a life without hope. God for me answers so many questions. For instance, Why are we here? or Where did we come from? or Where are we going? A life with God, for me, makes sense.

Mandy Jiang:

I was born into a christian family where everything I did was scrutinized in relation to the christian values. When I came out to australia, as an international student, at the age of 19 the support system of christianity which was originally there to steer me clear of trouble, faded. When I went back to China I realized how much I had changed and it did not make me happy. I really wanted to get back in touch with God and I believe the way to do that is to have my sins washed away, to eat and to drink of Christ in order that I might become more like him.
